SO YOU AND YOUR CREW HAVE FINALLY DECIDED TO STOP TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU LOVE HIKING, AND, LIKE, ACTUALLY GO HIKING?
Let’s get you some ideas for appropriate gear, just in case it’s been a while.
We’re semi-obsessed with these leggings and kicks by Outdoor Voices, a new company on the scene, whom we love for their design vibes and telling it like it is. All their items are made in the good ol’ US of A, in Cali, Cali. HotPants? Check.
The Cotapaxi jacket is good for all four seasons, making it a solid choice for investment since you’ll be sporting it often. The brand has solid sourcing credentials and a portion of the sale goes back to the non-profits with whom they work. Light green complements the gray and white bottoms and sneaks, and the lulu headband keeps your shiny (aka sweaty) hair back.
And just in case, if you’re anything like us, you get distracted by a pretty flower and the group leaves you behind, abandoned and absolutely famished in the woods, make sure to carry this exo protein bar with you. It’s PB&J – comfort food for the fifteen minute wait while your friends circle back to find you, and it’s made of cricket powder, in case you need to hold out a little longer and get used to some alternative sources of nourishment It’s certifiably delicious for noshing.
Look at you, sustainably chic as ever with the great big outdoors as your backdrop.

And for those who are really serious about the outfit and the location, here’s some of our favorite places around NYC, Cali, DC and Chitown, recommended by some ladies in the know….
Bear Mountain (NY), Breakneck Ridge (NY), Central Park?
Rock Creek Park, Great Falls Park (outside of DC – and if the traffic getting in is bad just go to Riverbed Park about a mile away, which is also lovely)
Marin Headlands – easy peasy
Mount Sutro – miles of amazing trails in one of the highest spots in the city, but doesn’t make you feel like you’re in the city at all
Golden Gate Park – dozens of trails both paved and not – one can get lost in the trails (!) – we recommend getting off the beaten path and exploring!
Ocean Beach – you could wrap in Fort Funston, Presidio Park or Golden Gate Park / Lands
McLaren Park – a lesser known park in the southern border of city with beautiful views and trails. Try “Philospher’s Way” for a ~3 mile loop of the park
San Bruno Mountain – 10 min drive south of city with a great 8 mile loop; goes to ~1,200 feet elevation
NOT FLAT: Starved Rock State Park, located 2 hours from the city / FLAT: The lakefront trail (it’s flat, obvs, but it’s 18 miles long!)
Also: Indiana Dunes and Door County, Wisconsin… WILD TIMES!
